KM Build Team - Polargraph Drawing Machine

Our long time supporters Ellie and Ashley from The Muse Knoxville have suggested that we partner with them for the Market Square Art Fair portion of the Dogwood Arts Festival.  The Muse will have a booth with staff and are willing to keep an eye on a display for us, and suggested that a draw-bot of some sort would be a great match for the theme of the event.  With the limited time we have available I started looking for a project that had good documentation and easy to find resources and have found what I think would be a good match in the Polargraph Drawing Machine by Euphy project from Instructables.
The team will be meeting Thu 4/10 & Fri 4/11 at 7:00 PM at Knox Makers (1010 Commerce Park Dr., Suite F, Oak Ridge, TN 37830).  If you are interested in being part of the Knox Makers Polargraph Build Team please come out to the space and join in on the fun.

T-Shirts Available for Pre-Order

The results from our poll were very close, but hombre edged out a one vote lead.  We've spent the past few weeks getting things coordinated with a local screen printer to get some t-shirts ready for sale, and now we're ready to accept pre-orders. Be sure to thank Issac for all his hard work on the T-shirt the next time you see him.  The fruits of his labors are visible in our space.  A sample shirt that was printed for approval is hanging up.  We'll be taking requests in quantity and size.

Google Glass Demo & Discussion (P) - Tue 4/1 7:00 PM

Google Glass

Google Glass is arguably one of the most anticipated innovations in computing in the last several years, but even with the first prototypes being available to the public since April 2013 very few people have had an opportunity to hold this technology in their own hands and determine for themselves how much of the media buzz is hype.  Please come out to Knox Makers and join us for a hands-on demo of the latest version of the Google Glass Explorer Edition and then discuss with us how this next level of ever-present computing will impact our lives.

Vacuum Forming Night (P) - Tue 2/25 7:00 PM

As most of you know, our "go-to" demo for Maker Faires and other public appearances for almost two years has been our kid's mask vacuum forming and painting setup.  We've had a lot of good responses from these demos and have got a lot of use out of the setup we created back in Feb 2012, but it's definitely time to do some maintenance and make some upgrades.  If you're interested in home/demo scale vacuum forming, curious what we've been showing at the Maker Faires, want to help out in maintaining and improving the space equipment, or just looking for something interesting to do on on the night of Tue 2/25, I suggest coming out to the space and witnessing the nifty.

Rearranging the Space

Here is the next example of the things that we are working on but get too busy to tell anyone.  In this week's episode we discuss the layout changes to the space. So, we've spent several weeks working furiously on trying many different possible layouts.  With Tobby's help, Issac and I measured all the things and Issac created a 2D scale model we can treat like a dollhouse. Then we moved stuff around a lot.  We kicked several ideas back and forth trying to come up with some workable layouts.
